Jamaican Weather
This island is the largest English speaking nation in the Caribbean and is positioned approximately eighteen degrees north and seventy-seven degrees west in the warm waters of Caribbean Sea. With its nearest point of the North America being the Florida Cays which is 240km to the north of Cuba and Haiti lies 160km to the west. The Jamaica weather is usually good throughout with varying temperatures as it has a tropical marine climate.
Jamaica is a very small island with an area of 10,900 square kilometers (4,244 sq miles). It however has the majority of the mountains that will be found in the Caribbean, with the Blue Mountain reaching the highest point of over seven thousand square feet.
The mountainous section will receive significantly higher rainfalls and the northern angle will get up two hundred inches in the year. The south coast that is more sheltered and dry will get about thirty inches of rain. Although the coastal areas receive lower quantity of rainfall, they can experience higher volumes during the hurricane season.
Most of the rainfall that occurs on the island starts in the month of May through to November, sometimes it extends to December. These months are considered as the wet and dry period with its periodical heavy afternoon showers that usually last for short time. One of the amazing things in this weather is that after the heavy showers you get a burst of sunshine immediately. However, you will get the heaviest rains in the months of September and October.
Jamaica is located in the tropical climatic belt and experiences hurricane during the rainy season. The official hurricane season will start from the month of June to November and usually peaks in the months September and October. Although the weather conditions varies and there is numerous tropical showers you will still get some of the best climate all year round which is influenced by the sea, the relief of the land and winds.
The tropical marine climate has temperatures ranging from twenty-five to twenty-nine degrees Celsius. Jamaica has varying temperatures which will rise to the high eighty degrees in the day and a low of seventy degrees during the night. During the day the sea cools the land and at nights the land loses heat rapidly and cools down.
This tranquil tropical climate is what thousands of persons gravitate to each year as the Jamaican weather contributes to healthy and comfortable environment. The sea helps to moderate the temperature which makes it neither too hot nor cold throughout the year. This offers much variation in the summer as during these months it is a lot warmer, with July being the hottest with temperatures of twenty-five to twenty-nine degrees Celsius. The winter periods still enjoys the sea effect as even in the coolest months of December to March, you will still get warm days.
The places that are closest to the coast will feel the effect of the sea breeze on the land during the days. You will find places on the plains relatively warmer and if you take a trip into the hilly and mountainous region of the island you will notice that it’s really cold. But this tropical climate with its humid and hot weather is the most appealing attraction to many who chose this island for their annual vacation destination.
